Mongolia has four operators: Mobicom (the biggest, the incumbent), Unitel, Skytel and G-Mobile. Mobicom and Unitel both have 4G across Ulaanbaatar and most provincial capitals, and 5G has launched commercially in Ulaanbaatar. The big challenge here is the country itself, it's massive and mostly empty. Coverage exists along the main roads and in the soum (district) centres but the steppe in between is largely off-grid. The Gobi Desert tours, the Khövsgöl Lake area and the Altai mountains have signal in towns and at some ger camps but expect long stretches of nothing. Local guides usually carry sat phones for serious trips.
Is Airalo good in Mongolia?
In our testing, Airalo connected reliably across major cities and travel routes in Mongolia. Plug is type C/E (230V) and the currency is the tögrög. Ulaanbaatar gets seriously cold in winter (down to minus 30s), and air pollution in the city is among the worst in the world from December to February.
